Activities of the Association

The Seattle-Christchurch Sister City Association builds a valuable international connection through a wide range of activities. One of the association goals is to create a New Zealand awareness in Seattle through the building and installation of exhibits and artifacts in areas of our most visited public places. Examples of progress to date can be seen at Woodland Park Zoo with the kea exhibit. Keas are colorful New Zealand parrots common in the mountain areas of the Southern Alps. The association sponsors a glade of New Zealand plants, trees and shrubs at the University of Washington Arboretum. There is a Maori art exhibit at the Burke Museum.

To learn about recent activities, go to our page with the Annual Reports.

The Sister City Association is developing a student exchange where three or four students from Christchurch visit Seattle for two weeks each April. Three or four students from Seattle travel to Christchurch in August. Students are hosted in homes in both cities and learn about their sister city by visiting schools, city officials, important historical sites, and meeting new friends.
